Rechargeable Fans and Solar Lights: What to Check Before You Buy
Rechargeable fans, solar bulbs and LED lights are popular in Pakistani homes and shops because they can run without a mains socket once charged. Models differ a lot, so use this checklist before you buy.
1. How is it powered and charged?
Check whether the product charges from a USB cable, a mains adapter or a built-in solar panel. A solar bulb needs sunlight to charge, so think about where the panel will sit. Make sure you have the charger or cable you need (for example USB or Type-C).
2. Battery size, charging time and run time
Battery size is usually written in mAh (the bigger the number, the larger the battery). Charging time and run time depend on the model, the speed setting or brightness you use and the age of the battery. Treat any figure as a guide, not a promise, and if a product page does not state the run time, ask the seller before ordering.
3. Fans: size, speeds and type
- Desktop and table fans suit a desk or bedside. Check the size and number of speeds.
- Mist fans use water to add a light mist: check the tank size and how to refill and clean it.
- Telescope or foldable fans save space: check the height range and how stable the stand is.
4. Lights: brightness and sensors
Brightness is measured in lumens, not watts. Motion-sensor and voice-control lights are handy for stairs and corridors: check the mounting type (bulb holder, stick-on or stand) and the area they cover.
5. Safety
- Use the charger that comes with the product or one that matches its rating.
- Do not cover a product while it charges, and do not charge it in damp places.
- Stop using a product that gets unusually hot, swells or smells, and keep all electrical items away from children.
